La Robe Rouge is taking the remains of this very emotional day, Orange T-shirt Day, to launch the events programmed for November. We are so proud and happy to announce the participation of Linda K Peters, Lyn Kaysewaysemat, her native name and her dear friend Rhoda Peters.
They arrive from British Columbia late October and will be present at both events at Centre Larei and Les Rotondes.
Present in spirit will be Bea Silver who is unable to make the trip. She will be represented by her work, books written about the residential schools in Canada. There will be readings of these works throughout the event.
Follows are the dates and details of the two events to be held in Luxembourg, A concrete programme will be published in the days to come.Centre Larei: Passing the Torch. Holders of our Stories. The Path Towards Healing and Reconciliation.A weekend/evening of conferences, testimonials, workshops, music and dance held by First Nations delegates from British Columbia. Come and participate in this unique event.
For all ages.
November 1st through November 3rd.The opening will take place on Friday, 1st November at 14h. Visitors are invited to view the exhibition of fashion designs by Lyn Kaysewaysemat, a library of publications on the subject of Residential Schools in Canada and the MMIWG movement, an audio visual installation, giant images of Inuit and their traditional life and a new body of work by Heather Carroll entitled Blankets and Beads: from Cultural Oppression to Cultural Expression.
There will be handmade objects for sale created by the participants or from First Nations artisans in Canada. La Robe Rouge, a giant tipi dress, will be installed as a focal point and guests are invited to sit within her space during the story telling.
First Nations music, live and performed, will enrich the evening. Visitors are invited to partake of the refreshments served throughout the evening.
The finale of the event will be a fashion show of Lyn’s work taking place on Sunday, 3rd November at 15h.
Saturday and Sunday will be animated by workshops, conferences and testimonials. There will, of course, be music and dance. As stated earlier, a concrete programme will be posted regarding times of each activity.
I cannot begin to express my huge joy in offering this event in my adopted country, Luxembourg. I am grateful and overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and generosity of Lyn, Rhoda and Bea.
November 5th finds us on an aeroplane heading for Athens, Greece. We will be giving my sculpture, completed earlier this year, a ceremonial blessing. The event will be recorded and posted here and on La Robe Rouge page.
Returning the 10th, we will catch our breath then off to the International Bazaar 15th November to distribute flyers regarding our event at Les Rotondes, Wednesday, 20th November at 18.30h.
Les Rotondes will again present the programme but a condensed version. Doors will open at 18.30h with the installation of La Robe Rouge and a continuous reel of images accompanied by music. Rosa Brignone, president of Time for Equality, will open the evening with a word of welcome and this will be followed by a conference held by Lyn Kaysewaysemat and Rhoda Peters. There will be a question and answer period and the evening will be capped by a fashion show of Lyn’s work.
Entrance is free, welcome all.
Again there will be objects for sale as at Centre Larei.
Apologies for the long post. It has been a long day. For some, a day like this, is every day.
Come and join us for either or both events. All are welcome.
We are ALL connected.
